Fellowship Opportunities For The 117th National Tax Association Conference
The National Tax Association offers three fellowship opportunities for the 117th Annual Conference:
The NTA is pleased to offer three fellowship/funding opportunities for the 117th Annual Conference, the NTA Equity and Inclusion Travel Fellowship, the NTA Pre-Conference Mentoring Dinner for Women/Non-Binary Persons, and the NTA Climate Tax Fellowship. See below for the specifics for each fellowship.
NTA Equity and Inclusion Travel Fellowship
The NTA Equity & Inclusion Fellowship provides conference travel funding with the goal of increasing participation in and creating long-lasting relationships with the National Tax Association and its activities among underrepresented minority (URM) graduate students and early career PhDs/JDs engaged in the theory and practice of public finance and taxation. The fellowship provides an NTA membership and supports the travel and participation of up to 5 students or early career professionals from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the NTA Annual Conference in Detroit, Michigan, November 14th - 16th.
Eligibility:
- PhD/JD students currently enrolled at an institution of higher education (4th year or later for PhD candidates, 2nd or 3rd year for law students) OR early career scholars within five years of completing their graduate degree
- Member of an underrepresented minority group, which include persons who identify as American Indian, Alaskan Native, Black, Hispanic (including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin) or Pacific Islander, as indicated in the voluntary demographic information section of this application
- U.S. Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
- Must be able to attend the 2024 NTA Annual Conference (November 14th – 16th) in-person in Detroit, MI

All Equity and Inclusion Fellowship Recipients Receive:
- 2024 NTA Annual Conference Complimentary Registration
- Complimentary 1-year NTA Membership
- A scholarship in the amount of $599 to offset costs of transportation (air and ground) as well as meals during the conference
- Two nights' accommodation at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, Detroit, MI
2024 NTA Mentoring Dinner Application
The National Tax Association (NTA) Mentoring Dinner provides an opportunity for women and non-binary persons engaged in the theory and practice of public finance and taxation to interact and create professional relationships with each other and the NTA. The dinner will be the evening of Wednesday, November 13, prior to the NTA meeting at a Detroit area restaurant. Participants will be organized into small groups based on common interests and each group will be matched with two mentors. Participants are encouraged to engage in conversations on a variety of issues, including generating research ideas, collaboration and co-authorship, publishing, promotion processes, networking, and work-life balance. Mentors and mentees are also encouraged to connect before, throughout, and after the conference, including the opportunity to have a practice job market interview conducted by a senior mentor.

- PhD/JD students currently enrolled at an institution of higher education (4th year or later for PhD candidates, 2nd or 3rd year for law students) OR early career scholars within five years of completing their graduate degree
- Identify as a woman or non-binary
- Must be able to attend the Mentoring Dinner, November 13th in-person in Detroit, MI and the 2024 NTA Annual Conference, November 14th - 16th

2024 NTA Climate Tax Fellowship Application
The NTA Climate Tax Fellowship provides conference travel funding for graduate students and early career MAs/PhDs/JDs whose research and professional interests lie at the intersection of tax and climate policy. The fellowship provides an NTA membership and supports the travel and participation of up to 4 students or early career professionals at the 2024 NTA Annual Conference in Detroit, Michigan, November 14th — 16th.
Eligibility:
- Postgraduate degree candidates (including JDs, PhDs, and Masters’ students) currently enrolled at an institution of higher education OR early career scholars within five years of completing their graduate degree
- Demonstrated interest in issues at the intersection of tax and climate or environmental policy
- U.S. Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
- Must be able to attend the 2024 NTA Annual Conference (November 14th — 16th) in-person in Detroit, Michigan

Requirements:
- Must attend the 2024 Annual Conference in person
- Must attend the plenary session on “Climate Tax", in person. Date and time will be decided shortly.
All Climate Tax Fellowship Recipients Receive:
- 2024 NTA Annual Conference Complimentary Registration
- Complimentary 1-year NTA Membership
- A scholarship of $2,000 to cover the costs of transportation and lodging in Detroit for the conference
