ABA Seeks To Hire Senior Law School Accreditation Counsel ($158,000 - $196,000)

The ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is seeking to hire a Senior Law School Accreditation Counsel:

ABA Legal Ed (2023)The senior accreditation counsel will work closely with Jennifer Rosato, Deputy Managing Director, and the rest of the staff on the accreditation process, and will also oversee data collection and analysis. The salary range is $158,000 - $196,000. From the job posting:

Job Summary/General Purpose of Job

  • Provides direction and counsel to the Accreditation Council and to the Section of Legal Education and Admission to the Bar.  Oversees Section’s data analysis and policy. Serves in a compliance role in assuring that the Section follows all DOE criteria as well as the Section's Standards and own Internal Operating Practices in its accreditation processes.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)

  • The Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director, provide management and leadership in the Managing Director’s Office on all aspects of the ABA accreditation process, including standards and rules of procedure, site visit process, site reports, Council review of law schools, variances, and major changes.
  • Provides regulatory, accreditation and educational expertise, analysis, consultation, and guidance to more than 200 accredited law schools and those seeking accreditation regarding the interpretation and application of Standards and Rules of Procedure for Approval of Law Schools.
  • Participates as part of the senior leadership team to develop the strategic direction for the Council’s work – including new initiatives.
  • Provides legal counsel and policy guidance to key Section committees; oversees special projects in support of Section programs and projects.
  • Management duties within the division include program planning and execution; fiscal responsibilities; and hiring, developing, supervising, and training legal and professional staff and consultants.
  • Manages site reviews of foreign programs including semester abroad, cooperative and summer abroad programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience

  • The position requires a J.D. Degree.
  • Requires superior analytical, communications, research, writing, and editing skills. 
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in law practice, law teaching law school administration, or administration of national, state, or local bar organizations.  
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary for supervising professionals, editing on a peer basis, and interacting with leaders of the profession inside and outside the ABA.

  • Typical office work environment.

Extent of Travel Required in the Job

  • As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel of less than 25% of the time.
