Law Moms: Juggling Motherhood, Ambition, And Personal Fulfillment
Law Moms: Juggling Motherhood, Ambition and Personal Fulfillment (2024):
What does it really take to balance the scales of justice—and family life? Step inside the gritty and gripping reality of the women who juggle the dual demands of motherhood and the legal profession.
Law Moms celebrates the indomitable spirit of eight women who navigate the complexities of law careers alongside the joys and challenges of motherhood. These narratives shine a light on the resilience, determination, and grace it takes to navigate both worlds with success and satisfaction. From the courtroom to the living room, these women demonstrate that with passion, perseverance, and the right support, balancing the scales of justice and family life is not only possible but deeply rewarding.
In these pages, you’ll discover:
- A second-generation lawyer confronting her relationship with alcohol and its pervasive influence in legal culture.
- A mother of two who embraces imperfection as she opts to join her kids' summer musical instead of pursuing her own summer internship.
- A woman who takes refuge in a law career as she tirelessly advocates for an adopted son with severe behavioral issues while trying to protect her younger daughter.
- A trailblazer challenging cultural stigmas surrounding mental health and therapy while battling depression.
- A personal injury lawyer finding solace amid her demanding schedule, cherishing precious moments with her children while helping her clients seek justice.
Susan Arenella, Abigail Seymour, Amy Mitchell Pooley, Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, Caitlin Haney Johnston, Nadia Bettac, Laura Ramos James, and Sarah Soucie Eyberg share their journeys of resilience, evolution, and the tenacity to push through adversity. Amid their struggles and victories, you'll find new appreciation for the amazing women who navigate the delicate balance between advancing a career in law and nurturing a thriving family life.
Law Moms is more than just a collection of narratives; it is a testament to the resilience, fortitude, and unwavering spirit of mothers in the legal profession. It is a beacon of hope for those grappling with similar struggles, offering reassurance, encouragement, and a reminder that together, we cannot only get through hard times but thrive. —Katherine A.E. Roe, Esq.
Eight women lawyers share their struggles, joys, shame and triumphs in this honest and uplifting book. To say the book examines "work-life balance" trivializes the depths of pressures (external and internal) inherent in the legal practice. I was stunned and buoyed by these women's searing vulnerability and strength. Any working parent can relate, but those of us managing a law practice will find sisterhood. —Judy Kostura
Law360, 'Law Moms' Share Tales Of Juggling Family And Careers:
Through at times deeply personal accounts, the eight attorney moms — some of whom still have young children and others who've shepherded their kids into adulthood — describe how they manage the pressure to simultaneously be great parents and top-notch attorneys when they are overwhelmed by the unceasing requirements of both roles.
The authors, who are based in Texas, North Carolina and Minnesota, were recruited by publisher Michelle Savage of Sulit Press through colleagues and their membership in a Facebook group for attorney moms. All profits from the book's sales are going to Table of Grace, a charity that benefits children in foster care and those aging out of the system.
Arenella told Law360 Pulse in a recent interview that she hopes the book will help challenge the "Superwoman myth that we can do it all backwards and in heels," with the reality that "it's impossible to do it all."
"I hope [the book] gives women permission to cut themselves some slack and be kinder to themselves," she said.
