Baker McKenzie Sues IRS For Details On Partnership Tax Crackdown
Reuters, Law Firm Baker McKenzie Sues IRS For Details on Partnership Tax Crackdown:
International law firm Baker McKenzie has sued the IRS in Washington, D.C. federal court to force the agency to publicly disclose more information about its expanded tax compliance crackdown on large partnerships.
The Chicago-founded firm, which says it employs 4,800 lawyers globally, filed the lawsuit, opens new tab on Monday under the Freedom of Information Act.
Baker McKenzie said the IRS should be forced to disclose memos, policy statements and training materials concerning document requests to partnerships and other entities. Partner George Clarke, head of the firm’s North America tax dispute group, was named as the plaintiff.
The lawsuit is also seeking information about IRS strategies for examinations of partnerships, and a copy of a paper that an IRS lawyer described in November in remarks at an American Bar Association tax conference.
