1L Sues Rutgers Law School For Ignoring Rampant Campus Antisemitism

National Review, Rutgers Law Student Sues School for Ignoring Rampant Campus Antisemitism:

AckermanA Jewish law student has filed a lawsuit against Rutgers University, alleging administrators violated his right to an educational environment free from discrimination by turning a blind eye to campus antisemitism.

Yoel Ackerman is being targeted by Rutgers for standing up to anti-semitism.  This lawsuit is just one step in our quest to change the culture at Rutgers which has allowed antisemitism to fester,” David Mazie, his legal representative, told National Review in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

New Jersey Law Journal, Jewish Law Student Claims Antisemitism at Rutgers:

Rutgers University has been hit with a suit by a Jewish law student who claims he was subject to harassment and retaliation after objecting to other students’ statements about the Hamas attack on Israel.

Yoel Ackerman, a first-year student at the law school’s Newark campus, says in the suit that administrators tolerate antisemitic expression, and acquiesced when the Student Bar Association launched a “witch hunt” against him.

His suit, filed Tuesday in Essex County Superior Court, claims Rutgers promotes a hostile educational environment in violation of New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination.

And as an Orthodox Jew who wears a kippah, or yarmulke, Ackerman says he fears for his safety at school, but administrators allegedly brushed off his concerns.
