February's Average MBE Score Rebounds From Last Year's All-Time Low, Augurs Higher State Bar Exam Pass Rates

The national Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) mean scaled score for February 2021 was 134.0, an increase of about 1.4 points from the February 2020 mean of 132.6.

The jump in the average MBE score on the most recent test suggests that pass rates in many jurisdictions will rise this cycle, though most states are still in the process of scoring exams. ...

Early February results by jurisdiction are mixed. Florida’s first-time February pass rate ticked up to 62% from 60% in February 2020. (It gave the exam online this year.) But in Pennsylvania, which also administered the exam remotely, the overall pass rate slipped slightly from 52% in 2020 to 51% in 2021. In Iowa, which gave the February bar in person, the pass rate shot up to 60% from 47% the previous year.
