28,000 Charities Had Their Tax-Exempt Status Revoked After Trump Administration ‘Error,’ Democratic Lawmakers Say

Forbes, 28,000 Charities Had Tax-Exempt Status Revoked After Trump Administration ‘Error,’ Lawmakers Say:

More than 30,000 nonprofit organizations in the U.S. have had their tax-exempt status automatically revoked by the Internal Revenue Service since May, Democratic lawmakers wrote in a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, after an “apparent error” by the IRS may have erroneously revoked thousands of organizations’ tax-exempt status. ...

The lawmakers suggest the issue appears to be a mistake by the IRS after the tax filing deadline for organizations was changed from May 15 to July 15, as the IRS’s Automatic Revocation of Exemption List shows many organizations had their exempt status revoked on May 15.

Oops.
Just pretend they were all Tea Party non-profits.
Now it's not so bad right?

"Just pretend they were all Tea Party non-profits."

That itself is the pretending, as the final report made it clear that both conservative and liberal non-profits were receiving extra scrutiny.

UT: "That itself is the pretending, as the final report made it clear that both conservative and liberal non-profits were receiving extra scrutiny."

That, sir or ma'am, is false at best and dishonest at worst. As the final TIGTA report made clear, which I commented on extensively at the time:

The Obama administration targeted, most likely for viewpoint discrimination, 100% of Tea Party related applicants, while the Inspector General could only find 4 cases of Progressive related applicants being scrutinized... years earlier in the Bush administration. That's not just false equivalency, it's pathetic partisanship in defense of illegal conduct, which is why Lois Lerner plead the 5th before Congress.

Sorry, pal, you don't get to rewrite history around here when you're so easily fact-checked. Unless you don't mind the "dishonest" label?
