Number Of Americans Renouncing Their U.S. Citizenship Declines 62% In Trump Administration, Following 2,200% Increase In Obama Administration

International Tax Blog, 2019 Published Expatriates - Lowest Level in Six Years:

Today the Treasury Department published the names of individuals who renounced their U.S. citizenship or terminated their long-term U.S. residency (“expatriated”) during the fourth quarter of 2019.

The number of published expatriates for the fourth quarter was 261, bringing the total number of published expatriates in 2019 to 2,072. The number of expatriates for 2019 was the lowest it has been for the past 6 years.

It would seem that either FATCA has run its course of flushing expatriate US citizens out of the bushes or the election of President Trump has stemmed the tide, or a combination of the two.
