Tallahassee Court Sends Summons To 750 Prospective Jurors For Sept. 23 Trial In Dan Markel Murder Case

Markel Suspects 2Jury summons are coming soon in the Dan Markel murder case.

Court administrators tell us they are summoning 750 potential jurors for the upcoming trial of Sigfredo Garcia and Katherine Magbanua.

The two are accused in the July 2014 murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel. A third man has already entered a plea and plans to testify against them.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin September 23.

Assume another continuance until the day the trial opens. Assume a mistrial until the moment the verdicts are read. It's Floriduh.

750 to get 12 plus some alternates? Is the judge expecting the defense lawyers to reject anyone with an IQ over 70? Is their case that bad?
And having endured a jury duty situation where several hundred of us were called in to get a few dozen jurors, I'd say these is an absurd imposition on the working public.
Besides, these were hired guns. The trial ought to be directed at those who hired them.
