Today is a bittersweet day. On the one hand, Pepperdine Law School is losing one of its most important and gifted administrators. On the other hand, the campus church I attend is gaining an inspiring and powerful leader. Al Sturgeon is leaving his post as Dean of Graduate Programs to become Pastor of University Church of Christ.
Regular readers of this blog have gotten to know Al a bit through some of his posts, including:
I also have shared several examples of Al's passionate pursuit of diversity and community-building (e.g., here, here, here, and here). Al movingly describes his career change and final meeting of the Interfaith Student Council (right), whose work the undergraduate student newspaper described in An Atheist, A Buddhist And A Christian Study For The Bar. Although I will miss terribly Al's daily presence at the law school, I rejoice at the prospect of hearing many Sunday messages from Al like this one.
