The IRS Scandal, Day 1244

IRS Logo 2Washington Times, Election Corruption Threat Watch: IRS Continues to Target Political Opposition:

With the illegal release of Donald Trump’s tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service (and therefore the Obama executive branch) has shown itself to be still targeting and oppressing the political opposition to the Obama/Hillary crime syndicate. After the disclosure of the IRS preventing tax-free status for Tea Party and other political groups in the last election cycle, congressional investigations followed. However, no convictions or impeachments were obtained, due to weak GOP leadership. Congress failed in its Constitutional duties. ....

Mr. Trump didn’t break any laws; all he did was lose some of his own money. What the IRS did is illegal. What the New York Times did is illegal. What Hillary Clinton has done with pay to play is illegal. What Hillary did with her private server and selling out national secrets is illegal. But no one cares about the rule of law anymore on the Left. It’s all about maintaining power at all costs. Even Republicans went after Richard Nixon, who by the way never used the IRS against his opponents. He thought about it but never did. The Left shows no such honor.

Pubs,

So, in review, you cannot demonstrate that the facts laid out in the House Oversight Committee's report and the National Review article regarding the treatment of True the Vote by the Feds are inaccurate?

Look up ad hominem sometime, specifically poisoning the well. You might learn something about yourself. And to think, I used to believe people older than me were necessarily more knowledgeable. Clearly not the case when partisanship is the primary motivation.

Thank you!

Mr. MM: The National Review is a well-known house organ of the so-called conservative movement, founded by the late William F. Buckley Jr. The National Review is a polemic, and presents conservative opinion and what passes for conservative analysis in the post-Buckley era. It is not a source that reports facts and was never intended to be such. As for the House report, your hyperlink was to a House Oversight PRESS RELEASE issued by the Republican majority. It was not a House report, for whatever value House Oversight reports have under the leadership of Chairs Issa and Chaffetz. As I wrote above, get serious.

"Get serious or please don't bother me."

I will continue to bother you, as this exchange clearly illustrates, despite claiming a monopoly on the truth, you just can't handle facts that are ideologically inconsistent with your POV. Nobody will ever accuse you of being open-minded, since attacking the source without addressing the argument is the *oldest* logical fallacy in the book.

Since you didn't cite anything to support anything you've claimed, I'll ask a simple question any adult can understand, though I don't expect you to respond:

Please demonstrate how the National Review article and House Oversight Committee report, both based on factual research, evidence, and testimony, are inaccurate,,,

It should also be noted that Democrats were more upset about the DNC getting hacked than OPM, SNowden, Manning, or any of the other catastrophic security breaches under Obama.

Its hard for Hillary's handling of classified information to stand out because while it is one of the worst in our history, it is also one of the smallest breaches over the last 8 years.

Publius had no problem with what the IRS did under Obama and he doesn't care about whatever state agency or other individual illegally released Trump's tax return.

If this was a state worker, it shows how the corruption of the Democrat party is at all levels of government. This has been repeatedly demonstrated from coast to coast by the illegal abuses of power carried out by the fascist Democrats.

Democrats have been upset that someone hacked their party's computer systems. It has been portrayed as one of the worst offenses against our country in history. And yet when Democrats act like Putin, they are cool with it. They cheer it on.

The reaction to the IRS scandal and the release of of Trump's taxes in comparison to their reaction to the DNC hacking is all we need to know about the Democrats.

Mr. MM: You're citing the National Review and a House Oversight press release for factual support? Really? Get serious or please don't bother me.

"Not unless I hear the testimony from the mouths of the agents."

So you only accept what the government says, not private citizens? No surprise there, since your go-to position is always that the feds are above reproach, never biased or dishonest, and never break any laws, when a (D) is running things that is. Kind of reactionary, when you think about it, since I can cite examples of all of those things happening over the past 8 years.

True the Vote was visited at their office, often unscheduled, by the IRS, FBI, ATF, and OSHA:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/348756/true-scandal-jillian-kay-melchior

And Rep. Elijah Cummings (D), who eventually led the effort to stop Congressional oversight, worked with Lois Lerner to antagonize the group:

https://oversight.house.gov/release/new-irs-e-mails-lois-lerner-funneled-elijah-cummings-info-targeted-conservative-group/

They were targeted, plain and simple, and their political orientation had everything to do with it.

Come on, Pubs, you say you only deal in facts. Explain away the government's behvaior in this case, I'm all ears. And I'm willing to consider all sources, unlike yourself...

I guess I was wrong. Mr. VOI did need someone to tell him state income tax returns are not filed with the IRS. BTW, Mr. VOI, I don't believe for one minute that "IRS, FBI agents [were] sent to the homes of 'True the Vote' folks in Texas." Not unless I hear the testimony from the mouths of the agents.

Mr. PN: Are you blind sir? Hundreds of conservative groups tied up through the '12 election cycle. IRS, FBI agents sent to the homes of the "True the Vote" folks in Texas. "Crashed" hard drives, missing emails to the tune of thousands, IRS people taking the Fifth. What does it take to get you to admit that some bad stuff went down? Nixon and his guys were saints compared to the Obama people.

The right-wing press is really off the rails on this one. It is probably not necessary to remind the readers of this blog that Mr. L. Todd Wood has his facts completely wrong. The IRS did not release Mr. Trump’s 1995 tax returns, illegally or otherwise. The returns in question are state returns, not federal returns. The fact-free world of the Washington Times is quite stunning.
