The IRS Scandal, Day 868

IRS News, IRS Scandal, Tax | Permalink

Bittman, Media Matters was approved many years ago, so they are golden forever. It has nothing to do with the fact that they lean hard left. Nothing whatsoever. That's what the IRS employees tell themselves at least. If Media Matters leaned right and had been approved many years ago, they would not be golden. But that's a hypothetical the IRS employees don't even think about. The preceding is just my opinion based on how it looks from the outside.

I'm still waiting for the IRS to look into Media Matters' abuse of its tax exemption when it clearly promotes Progressive (ie., Democrat) policies and candidates.

I agree, PN. At least until someone can point to other exempt orgs that have not lost their exempt status notwithstanding similar noncompliance.

Everything the IRS does at this point is a "scandal." VSA lost its tax exemption because it failed to file its forms 990. All tax exempt orgs, except for churches, must file forms 990 annually to retain tax exempt recognition. VSA is not a church, therefore, it must file an annual form 990. This has nothing to do with politics.
