The IRS Scandal, Day 791

IRS Logo 2New York Post editorial, The IRS Scandal Just Got Even Worse:

So the Obama IRS wasn’t just persecuting right-leaning nonprofits — it was out to prosecute them, too. And with the help of the Obama Department of Justice and FBI.

Via Freedom of Information Act lawsuits, the watchdog group Judicial Watch just got evidence of the plot. A “DOJ Recap” on an Oct. 8, 2010 meeting tells how officials from the three agencies discussed “several possible theories to bring criminal charges under FEC law” against groups “posing” as tax-exempt nonprofits.

As part of the project, the IRS handed the FBI 21 computer disks with 1.23 million pages of confidential IRS returns from 113,000 nonprofit 501(c)(4) groups — nearly every 501(c)(4). This, though federal law generally bans the IRS from sharing such data.

The evidence shows “that the Obama IRS scandal is also an Obama DOJ and FBI scandal,” noted Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The FBI and Justice Department worked with Lois Lerner and the IRS to concoct some reason to put President Obama’s opponents in jail before his re-election. And this abuse resulted in the FBI’s illegally obtaining confidential taxpayer information.”

The IRS scandal surfaced years ago — and for all the administration talk of a full investigation, this huge news is only surfacing now, and only thanks to Judicial Watch.

The news of FBI and Justice involvement in the IRS scandal makes the need for some special prosecutor to probe this mess even more obvious.

After all, as Judicial Watch’s Fitton asks: “How can the Justice Department and the FBI investigate the very scandal in which they are implicated?”

As usual, Mr. Wodun missed the point. The point of my post is that the "news" about which JW was crowing is not news at all and in fact is at least a year old. The further point is that the right-wing media continues to re-release old news just to keep the issue alive. The fact is, JW's FOIA much-ballyhooed FOIA request did no uncover anything new or newsworthy. The emails received by JW were release over a year ago to congressional investigators and were made public at that time. We can all debate the significance of the emails, but there can be no question that they did not reveal new information. We read the same overheated headlines well over a year ago from several different sources.

What is wrong with the IRS doing their job? The fact is that many of these organizations were created to violate the regs pertaining to 501(c)(4).

Short version of "Publis": "We modern liberals are proud to follow the precepts of fascism".

Notice how Democrats began by saying they were outraged by the IRS' targeting of non-Democrats but then moved on to denying that anything took place and that the IRS was just doing its job and the non-Democrats deserved what happened?

Its an amazing shift.

Obama and the Democrats have dehumanized their opposition to the point Democrats WANT them to be locked up in prison. Not surprising as Obama pulled the old Socialist tactic of claiming everyone in opposition to him were really foreign agents.

The parallels between the Obama administration and Castro, Che, Mussolini, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and the multitude of other communist revolutionaries are many.

Under Obama's leadership, the Democrat party has openly supported electing self-declared socialists as the party is pulled ever leftward toward the civilization destroying ideology.

lol @ Publius, "They were just doing their job." That's what the Nazi said too. I am more than a little uncomfortable by our friends to the left emulating leftist totalitarian police state tactics like we used to see in the USSR and East Germany and see today in Cuba and Venezuela.

Did Barackobama.com get sent to DOJ for prosecution? No. Just innocent people who happened to not be Democrats. Democrats have different sets of rules they make people follow based on skin color and political ideology, we used to call laws like these Jim Crow laws.

And as usual Publius dodges the issue of conflict of interest. Due process isn't one of the rights Democrats allow their victims.

" . . . this huge news is only surfacing now, and only thanks to Judicial Watch." Really? Does the NYP live under a rock? This "news"--that the Dept. of Justice reviewed materials from the IRS to determine whether federal laws have been broken by 501(c)(4) applicants--is at least a year old. As for being news, it ain't. One of the principal functions of the DOJ Criminal Division is to review cases for possible criminal violations and prosecution thereof. It's their duty.
