When I Grow Up, I Want to be a Tax Accountant
Comments
Appreciate the young man's comment...hours worked to save a $3.00 whole dollars. Our tax seasons have improved with tax software and e-file. Now, our time is wasted on clients who 'forget' to return for the exit review and signing the 8879 before deadline.

Back in the 1970s I attended a Federal Tax Institute of New England 3-day seminar on ERISA. The last day, a Saturday, was especially difficult after lunch, with many attendees having left or ready to doze off. The first speaker for the afternoon session was introduced. He said he was an actuary and that the audience of tax attorneys and CPAs might be wondering what's an actuary. He said an actuary is someone who actually wanted to be a CPA but lacked the personality. Gales of laughter stirred the attendees, keeping then awake for the remainder of the session.

Great kids. Based on only a couple of minutes of video, I can see their parents deserve much credit.
Levity aside, the kids deliver a grim message. It's scary of think of your kid growing up to be a tax accountant, or, even harder, to reflect on your own reasons for doing so. Tax is a noble calling, however -- especially when a thankful client reminds us of the fact -- and we may always remember there are far worse ways to earn a living.

The kids make it sound more glamorous than it really is.
"When I grow up, I want to miss summer vacations, holidays, family weddings, plus all my kids birthdays...so, that I can stay late and work on another tax return."
