Stephen Shay Named Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Tax Affairs

Shay Stephen E. Shay, a tax partner at Ropes & Gray (Boston), has been named Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Tax Affairs in the U.S. Treasury Department.  From the Ropes & Gray press release:

As deputy assistant for international tax affairs, Shay will be part of the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy and have responsibility for matters related to U.S. international tax policy, including developing international tax legislation proposals, negotiating and reviewing tax treaties with foreign countries, and participating in the development of regulatory and other guidance on existing laws.

Tax Analysts reports that Michael Mundaca, the current Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Tax Affairs who also has been serving as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, may soon be nominated to become the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy.
