Darryll K. Jones (Stetson) of our sister Nonprofit Law Prof Blog has an excellent post on the press release issued by Kenneth Copeland Ministries in response to Senator Grassley's memorandum regarding the status of his investigation of certain Megachurches (blogged here).

The most recent nepotism angled attack on Copeland a few weeks ago by the Grassley camp is yet another sign that Grassley has lost any ground he thought he had to stand on. It's time for this to come to an end, and Grassley admit his mishandling of this situation from day one. Copeland is going to see this to the end, and I hope that comes before a wrong decision is made.

Copeland is fighting Grassley's with a valid arugment. Had Grassley gone with an IRS investigation to begin with, as Copeland invited, he would have saved himself alot of trouble. The information would have been required to be kept confidential though. So, what are Grassley's true motives in this situation? Did he have future plans to use the information for some kind of exploitation bringing into play even more Constitutional issues? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
