Senate Holds Estate Tax Hearing Today

The Senate Finance Committee holds a hearing today on Federal Estate Tax: Uncertainty in Planning Under the Current Law.  Here are the witnesses scheduled to testify:

  • Warren Buffett (Chairman & CEO, Berkshire Hathaway, Omaha, NE)
  • Conrad Teitell (Principal, Cummings & Lockwood, Stamford, CT)
  • Dean Rhoads (Rancher, Tuscarora, NV)
  • Eugene G. Sukup (Chairman of the Board, Sukup Manufacturing Co., Sheffield, IA)

In connection with the hearing, the Joint Committee on Taxation has released  History, Present Law, And Analysis of the Federal Wealth Transfer Tax System (JCX-108-07):

This document provides a history, description, and analysis of the Federal estate and gift tax rules. he overview presents data about the estate and gift tax, a brief discussion of possible economic effects of the tax, and a short summary of present law estate and gift tax rules.
