New Dean Wants To Make Mercer Georgia's 'Premier Law School'

MercerThe Telegraph, New Dean Wants to Make Mercer the State’s ‘Premier Law School’:

Cathy Cox has returned to the roots of her legal career. As the new dean of Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law, she wants to help take the institution she loves to the next level. ...

“(Macon) has really grown a lot since I was in school here, but my husband, Mark, and I are really glad to be a part of this community and look forward to getting involved in a lot of things,” Cox said. “I really want to make sure that Mercer stands out as the premier law school in this state."

“Mercer has a long history of providing great lawyers ... and I want to enhance that in every way I can.”

The current U.S. News rankings of Georgia's law schools are:

Emory (22)
Georgia (30)
Georgia State (65)
Mercer (134)
Atlanta's John Marshall (n/r)
Savannah (n/r)

Mercer is a long way from being even the third best law school in the state. And as long as Georgia State is a fraction of the cost and situated in Atlanta (instead of Macon for Mercer), I don't see that changing.

Good luck with that . . .

I don't foresee Mercer being premier in my lifetime or my grand-kids' life time (my oldest child is 2). It's possible that Mercer could overtake GSU COL, but even that's highly unlikely. There's a snowball's chance in July Atlanta that Mercer would ever top Emory or UGA.
