TaxProf Blog Crosses 15 Million Visitor Mark

Yesterday afternoon, TaxProf Blog crossed the 15,000,000 visitor mark.  To put that number in perspective, it is the most visitors to any law-focused blog edited by a single law professor (and 14,981,066 more than the number of downloads of my articles and 14,999,578 more than the number of citations of my articles in law reviews).

I was surprised to learn this morning that the manager of the McDonald's on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu is apparently a fan of TaxProf Blog:

Visitor number 15,000,000 came to the blog at 2:39 p.m. yesterday from Google headquarters in Mountain View, California as the result of (what else) a Google search:

Congratulations. This is a great source of information, and it is operated in an unbiased, non-partisan manner that allows and supports many views.

Good work, Paul, and congratulations! While they don't have a sign like McDonald's, everyone at our local Waffle Houses are excited about your milestone. I'm going to propose that they name a grits recipe in honor of you.

I don't think that the visitor was from technically from Google HQ, or even visited this site at all. The user agent string has the phrase "Google Web Preview" in it. That's Google's feature where when someone hovers over a link in their results, a tiny image of the page is displayed.

So what probably happened here is that someone Googled something and hovered over the link. Google then went out and fetched the page in order to show their user the tiny image. The user may or may not have actually come to the TaxProf site.

Congrats nonetheless.

Great photo. And it'll get me to go there when I'm next in Malibu!
