WaPo: White House Press Secretary Avoids Scheduled Foreclosure on Her Home for Unpaid Property Tax

White House press secretary Dana Perino appeared on Washington, D.C.'s list of forthcoming foreclosure and auction sales for nonpayment of $1,921.86 of real estate taxes on her home at 318 16th Street, SE:

The home has an assessed value of $684,740.  The Washington Post reports that Ms. Perino avoided the foreclosure and sale by paying the overdue taxes, penalties, and interest this week.  (Hat Tip: Don't Mess With Taxes.)

Why the hell does she live in SE? You'd think with a fancy White House job she could afford a decent place in Georgetown or Dupont Circle, or upper NW "burbs."

How is this news? Congress Critters don't have a lot of time on their hands and can forget to pay taxes just like everyone else. This story should be deleted.

Hat Tip: Americans really own NOTHING in this country. Do you think you OWN the home your in. If you OWN it, how can some one come steal it from you for not paying a bill?

You rent it from the government.

$1921.38? On an assessed value of $684,740!

All this time I've been thinking taxes were sinful in places like DC only to find out they are a giveaway. I just got the tax bill on a 1/2 acre home lot I purchased outside Savannah and the bill is over $1200.00 on an assessed land value of about $100,000.

Seems to me that DC is shortchanging themselves on property taxes! No wonder the city is a disaster area.

Yep John Steele, if the DC government just had MORE MONEY, and folks were paying their FAIR SHARE, then DC could become the utopia that it's citizens and government deserve!
It's just a question of dollars, really.

And how does it make them any different than the rest of us who are busy, working three jobs and not making enough to eat on? If those of us who are struggling can't pay our taxes, our homes get the same treatment. Why should Perino be any different? Fact is, most congress critters and white house whores just don't pay their taxes until forced to. Longer in the bank, more in the interest, huh? And they make a hell of a lot more money than the average joe.

Actually, that is not a bad neighborhood. It's in between the Eastern Market and RFK - it has gotten markedly better in the last five to ten years. It's a single family row home, too.

I'd be more worried about her address being posted on blogs. That should be incentive enough to ensure your taxes are taken out of your mortgage payment. Some moonbats will probably camp outside her place and protest.

She's obviously not very patriotic, at least according to the standards of Sen. "Pay Up" Biden.
