University of Iowa Profs Ordered to Undergo Sexual Harassment Training

In response to these horrific allegations against political science professor Arthur H. Miller, today's Chronicle of Higher Education reports that the University of Iowa has ordered all professors and staff to undergo training in how to avoid sexual harassment.  See also:

Is the University concerned that some of its professors might be ignorant of the fact that this is improper behavior? I don't think training is called for here. I think creating enforcement mechanisms is what this calls for.

Um, decidedly not the way to react, Iowa. It implies that think that a week's worth of sensitivity training would have stopped Miller's behavior. Not so.

It's a CYA tactic. A plaintiff's lawyer in a sexual harassment suit will make a big deal out of a failure to hold these seminars.

It's silly. No one needs to be told that trading licks for marks is unethical, ill-mannered, and illegal. Still, every potential defendant must cover its rump.
