Citizens for Tax Justice Releases State-by-State Estate Tax Data
Citizens for Tax Justice has released a new report with the latest (2005-2006) state-by-state estate tax data. 22,624 of decedents (0.9% of all estates) owed estate tax in 2006 (when the estate tax exemption was $2 million, so married couples in effect could pass $4 million free of tax). Here are the 13 states with the largest numbers and percentages of decedents owing estate tax in 2006:
