My Place on the Electoral Compass: McCain?
At Stephen Bainbridge's invitation, I located my place on the Electoral Compass, a two-dimensional graph with social issues on the y axis and economic issues on the x axis. To my surprise, after taking the quiz I ended up closest to John McCain:
One possible explanation is that the quiz did not ask any questions in the areas in which I have strong disagreements with Sen. McCain. And in any event, as Steve notes, a candidate's personality and leadership ability often trumps specific policy positions.

I think the bunching of D. and R. candidates into the same quadrant is suspicious. As one obvious example Huckabee seems much more socially than economically conservative, I don't quite get how he fits in so close other R. candidates. Likewise Obama seems to me to emphasize social over economic liberalism rather more than Clinton, but they show up as almost identical.
