IRS Is Holding $2.2 Billion in Tax Refunds

Irs_logo_374 The IRS announced yesterday (IR-2007-51) that it is holding more than $2.2 billion in tax refunds for the 1.8 million people who failed to file a federal income tax return for 2003.  But to collect the money, a 2003 return must be filed by Tuesday, April 17, 2007.  The Top 5 states for taxpayers with unclaimed refunds are:

  1. California:  200,000
  2. Texas:  136,600
  3. Florida:  123,500
  4. New York:  110,600
  5. Illinois:  67,700
