Road to World Series Begins in IRS Chief Counsel's Office
Darryll Jones (Pittsburgh) passed on this tidbit from a brochure, Careers with the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service -- A Great Place to Start The brochure profiles IRS Chief Counsel alumni who have gone on to bigger and better things, including Pam Olson, Ron Pearlman, Sheldon Cohen, and Jerry Reinsdorf:
Jerry Reinsdorf, the primary owner of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls, got his start at the Office of Chief Counsel after receiving his law degree from Northwestern University. After a few years, he left Counsel to become a tax lawyer in private practice. While looking for good investments for his tax clients, he became interested in the real estate market. In 1971, with a group of investors, he created one of the earliest public real estate limited partnerships. He went on to start a real estate syndication company, Balcor, which he and his partners sold to American Express in 1987. He and his group purchased the Chicago White Sox and Comiskey Park in 1981 and a controlling interest in the Chicago Bulls in 1985.
