Book Club: New Edition of Tax Guide for College Teachers

Teacher_tax_guideThe 2005 edition of the Tax and Financial Guide for College Teachers and Other College Personnel is now available. Here is the description from publisher Academic Information Service, Inc.:

This 550+ page book describes all the tax rules that apply to College Teachers. The 2005 Tax and Financial Guide for College Teachers contains special information not found in any other tax guide nor understood by most professional tax preparers.

The book includes chapters of interest to faculty on:

  • Deducting books and equipment used in scholarship and teaching
  • Consulting income
  • Sabatticals, leaves of absences, and visits at other schools
  • Home office deductions
  • Travel expenses
  • Retirement planning
  • Employer-paid tuition

The publisher makes this guarantee:

If the 2005 Tax and Financial Guide for College Teachers does not save you an extra $300 or more on your taxes, your money will be refunded when the book is returned within 30 days.

David Bernstein (George Mason) offers his endorsement of the book on The Volokh Conspiracy:

For the professors in the VC audience, I highly recommend the Tax Guide for College Teachers. Over the years, this book, updated annually, has literally saved me thousands of dollars in taxes (mostly because I discovered throug h it that certain types of fellowship income are not subject to Social Security and Medicare tax).

Does anyone know what happened to the site for Tax and Financial Guide for College Teachers and Other College Personnel?

I was just looking for that web site also. In the past, AIS has shut down the site if there is no Guide for the upcoming year. As tax law has not changed, there probably will not be a 2006 guide, so I hope you hung onto last years. (I lent mine out and am trying to get it back now.)

I'm not finding a new one anywhere. But I did find the Educator's Tax Guide from the ETPS. The latest 2007 edition can be ordered here:
